How to contact me

I’m always looking to chat with people for stories. That includes employees at tech companies, users encountering problems, researchers, and activists. You can email me at mia[at]theverge[dot]com, or use the form below.

Anonymous sources

My stories sometimes feature anonymous sources. Whenever possible, I work to avoid this in order to build trust with readers — but I understand that some sources could be at risk if their identity is publicized. Here’s what to know if you want to chat with me, but don’t want your name in the piece:

  1. We can talk informally, completely off-the-record, before sitting down a formal interview. This is a chance for you to get to know me, ask questions about the story, and understand potential risks.

  2. If appropriate, I can use a pseudonym, first initial of a name, or otherwise shield your identity. In order to do this, we will need to talk and come to an agreement about what this looks like in the piece — reach out and let me know you have concerns about attribution.

  3. My sources’ privacy and protection is of the utmost importance. I’ve spoken with employees afraid to lose their jobs and former employees worried about retribution. I’ve published leaked internal documents and reported on company meetings — all while protecting my sources. I take this very seriously!

  4. Please avoid messaging me on social media — it is not a secure communication channel. Shoot me an email and I will send you my Signal number. Signal is a free encrypted messaging app and is my preferred way to communicate about sensitive topics. Remember to use a personal device and email account, not one tied to your job.
